The Acting Director-General of the Department of Communications notes the unfortunate media reports that attribute his decision to terminate the contract of Mr Ndaba to the Minister, General (Ret) Siphiwe Nyanda.
The decision to terminate the contract of Mr Ndaba was administrative. The manner in which Mr Ndaba was appointed is currently contested by the department in the Labour Court. As the accounting officer had to apply corrective measures, Minister Nyanda is not involved in the operational matters of the department. This was purely an administrative decision that was undertaken by the accounting officer.
It is unfortunate that departmental policy does not allow for comments on internal security measures; matters of employee relations are administrative.
It is unfortunate that a few staff members continue to use the media as a platform to raise their concerns despite internal channels available to them.
