Tenth anniversary of 16 Days of Activism

The 10th anniversary of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign was celebrated yesterday with the ceremonial lighting of the Torch of Peace at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

Deputy Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Yunus Carrim, Minister for Women, Children and People with Disability, Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya, Minister for Police Nathi Mthethwa, Deputy Minister for Justice and Constitutional Development, Andries Nel, Minister for Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, were amongst some of the dignitaries who gave credence to the importance of this campaign.

The 16 Days of Activism campaign is a partnership between government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), faith-based organisations (FBOs), business, traditional leaders, state-owned enterprises (SoEs), civil society and the media to raise awareness about the abuse of women and children. The campaign aims to mobilise all sectors of society to act together against abuse and to support the victims and survivors of abuse.
