Durban Organised Crime Unit and Pinetown Tactical Response Team were conducting an intelligence driven operation in the KwaShembe area in Clermont, today 30 May, when they recovered 34 bags of dagga which was hidden in a shack.
After holding observation posts for hours and studying the activities of people in the area, they pounced on a shack which was used as a storage facility for the merchandise. The occupants of the shack tried their luck at evading the police but were caught. Upon investigating, police discovered that it is the type of dagga which originates from Lesotho and is estimated at a street value of R1.4 million.
Ten suspects between the ages of 21 and 57 were arrested and charged for dealing in dagga. They are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate Court soon.
