A female passenger died and 15 others were injured after a taxi overturned on the R565 Phokeng-Boshoek road in the North West on Saturday afternoon.
It is alleged that the rear left tyre of the Toyota Siyaya taxi burst outside Phokeng, between Marang Hotel and Kedar Lodge at around 3:00 pm causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle with sixteen occupants. The taxi overturned and rolled several times before landing on its roof.
The female passenger who was in her 40’s died at the scene of the accident. The 47 year old taxi driver was critically injured. He together with other passengers amongst them a toddler and two 5 year-old children who were critically injured were rushed by paramedics to Fern Crest Private Hospital and Job Shimankana Tabane Provincial Hospital. Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide.
