Taxi driver arrested for overtaking on a barrier line in North West

A thirty-three year old long distance taxi driver was arrested for endangering the lives of his passengers and other road users by overtaking on a barrier line on the R509 Magaliesburg-Swartruggens road in the North West province on Wednesday
afternoon.

The  taxi driver who was transporting 12 passengers in  minibus taxi from Johannesburg to Zeerust was pulled over by Provincial traffic officers near Skierlek in the Koster district at around 4:30pm after committing the alleged offence.

He was arrested on the spot after he failed to produce a public driving permit. Passengers who were in the vehicle had to be transferred into another taxi. He is expected to appear before the Swartruggens Magistrates Court on Thursday, 23
December 2010, to answer to charges of reckless and or negligent driving and driving a public transport vehicle without the required driving permit.
