The Hoopstad Magistrate Court in the Free State has handed down a fifteen-year sentence to a suspect involved in the Post Bank cyber heist. Teboho Donald Masoleng was part of a gang that hacked into the Post Bank system and transferred R43 million into different accounts from 31 of December 2011 to 1 January 2012 .
Masoleng was arrested in Welkom on 12 February and charged with fraud to the value of R43 million. On arresting him, police confiscated a Mini Cooper, which he had bought using some of the loot stolen during the heist. Today (Tuesday), Masoleng appeared before a magistrate in Hoopstad, and pleaded guilty to charges of fraud. He was sentenced to fifteen years for his role in the heist.
Two more suspects have already been sentenced to fifteen and twenty five years respectively. The SAPS management applauds all teams that were involved in tracing the suspects and bringing them to justice. More suspects will be hearing from us soon.
