Suspect FMD laboratory results have been received from a few cattle that were sampled in the FMD free zone in the Greater Tubatse Local Municipality. The area under investigation is situated in the Limpopo province, approximately 80 km north of Lydenburg (Mpumulanga). A definitive diagnosis is still pending. The state veterinary authorities are currently awaiting confirmatory laboratory results and are undertaking clinical inspection of cattle and surveillance in the surrounding areas.
The suspect area has been quarantined and the matter is being treated with utmost priority. The public, trade partners and international authorities will be informed of the outcome of the current investigations and any further developments as soon as more information is available.
