In an intelligence driven operation from early this morning, the Hawks have conducted an operation in three premises in Lenasia, South of Johannesburg. Police found three cars, a Toyota Fortuner, a brand new BMW, an Opel Corsa, several quad bikes, a stolen motorbike, trailers and a gun. The Fortuner was stolen from a dealership in Randburg last week, while the BMW was stolen from a dealership in Roodepoort, also last week.
During the operation, our members also found false car documents, a machine used to print documents, stamps used to allow goods to cross the border; as well as money which was packed with items to be exported. The suspects targeted are responsible for transporting cars across the border to Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique. One suspect has been arrested.
He will be charged with car theft, hijacking, possession of stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, forgery and uttering. The suspect is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate Court on Friday.
