Non emergency surgical operations have resumed at Tembisa hospital following the successful repairs to the cooling system.
The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development would like to thank patients, their families and the community for the patience they have shown while repairs were underway.
Orthopaedic patients had to be transferred to other hospitals last month when a breakdown in the cooling system affected theatres.
MEC Mekgwe visited the hospital in December and instructed that orthopaedic patients awaiting surgery be transferred to other hospitals until repairs to the cooling systems were completed.
A new compressor has since been installed and was completed on 24 December 2010. Theatres at the hospital are currently up and running.
All non-emergency operations have now been attended to and backlogs have been cleared.
