Successful joint crime prevention operation by Inanda and Phoenix clusters

Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, hailed the management and members of the Inanda and Phoenix Clusters for joining forces and successfully carrying out a crime prevention operation during the weekend, resulting in a number of arrests and the recoveries of firearms, ammunition and drugs.

“Drugs are a scourge destroying the lives of our youth. We will continue to arrest the drug lords until our streets are rid of drugs. I have also called on the Cluster and Station Commanders to gather intelligence and carry out operations to arrest all those who are in unlawful possession of firearms and to remove all unlicensed firearms from circulation. These weapons are being used in senseless killings, especially in taxi and political rivalry.” said General Ngobeni.

The joint operation focused predominantly on the KwaMashu, Inanda, Amaoti and Phoenix areas and netted forty eight arrests. Three suspects were arrested for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, one for drunken driving, six for drug related offences and the others for anti-social and liquor-related offences. A number of motorists were also charged for traffic violations.

Items seized by police during the operation included four firearms, ammunition, 181 pieces of rock cocaine, eight grams of powdered cocaine and four ecstasy tablets.
