On 2 August 2011 at about 14h45, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) confiscated illegal goods from illegal immigrants near the Mozambican border.
The incident occurred when they were patrolling the border between Tunnel and Zulu crossing when they approached two male suspects with bags crossing the border into South Africa, the alleged suspects ran away leaving their bags behind.
The following items were confiscated:
- 50, cartons of Pall Mall cigarettes valued at R10 000.00
- 27, cartons of Safari cigarettes valued at R5400.00
- 20, 250ml Tantacao whiskey valued at R600.00
- 20, 250ml El Salvador gin valued at R600.00
- Seven 100ml Boss whiskey valued at R1575.00
- One 100ml Double Punch gin valued at R225.00
- Three bags of second hand clothes valued at R4000.00
The total value of the confiscated goods is estimated at R22, 625-00.
The goods were handed over to Lebombo Border Post (SARS).
This is part of the SANDF border safe guarding mandate.
