Statement on Premier's gifts to two schools in Upington

Christmas has definitely come early for the children of two schools in Upington. Premier Hazel Jenkins has practicalised the belief that Christmas is a time for giving and goodwill. Premier identified Ubunye Day Care Centre in Louisevale as needy creche and she decided to buy educational toys, books, tables and chairs, pencils and crayons for the day care centre.

Alls these goodies were handed over by Premier Jenkins at a ceremony  yesterday the 13 December 2011 at an event which was attended by Religious leaders, an NGO called Neighbour-helping-Neighbour, the DG (Advocate Bekebeke), the Speaker of Siyanda DM (Mme Nokhaya Mjila) and a huge contingent of people from the Plakkerskamp in Louisevale.

She made a call to parents to be exemplary to their little ones, and asked the children to listen and respect their parents.

Premier's second stop was at Cornelius Botha Primary School, were she and her delegation were welcomed by Avery enthusiastic crowds school children. They were dancing and enjoying themselves, as they welcomed her to their school for the first time. Even the Principal and staff could not hide their excitement of visited by the Premier of the province for first time. The principal, Mr. Strauss called it "historic".

Premier delivered a message of hope and dreams, asking the children in UAP to believe in themselves and to do all that they can to pursue their dreams. She called on the children to not allow their past or their conditions determine their future, but to strive to be the best and achieve their dreams.

In this time of the festivities, let us take of our children and behave responsibly.
I, on behalf of the Exco, wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
