Statement on the occasion of the presentation of the NYDA’s 2012/13 Annual Report

The NYDA has set aside R2 million towards the Thusano Fund aimed at assisting young people and youth organisation that needs small amounts of money towards study fees, upgrade their facilities, or simply purchase learning material to equip young people with necessary skills to live independently and with dignity.

A promising young man, Karabo Robaya from Lebanon in the North West was recently assisted through this fund for his boarding and lodging expenses following his granting of a scholarship at Alabama State University in the United States of America. He will be studying to acquire a US equivalent of a Bsc Degree in Accounting.

We are confident that the launch of these four new programmes as part of the plan we set out in April of this year will pave the way for making a difference in the lives of young people. A recent research report by Pondering Panda indicated that 84% of respondents felt that having the NYDA was important and relevant in South Africa.

The reality is that the majority of young people see a new NYDA that is trying to make a difference and they appreciate this. We will therefore try our very best not to disappoint the majority of young people who have faith in us and we shall work tirelessly to do as much as we possibly can even if it means helping a thousand or so young South Africans to break free from the chains of poverty.
