Statement by the Minister of Science and Technology on the Results of the 2012/13 Management Performance Assessments of National and Provincial Departments

The Minister of Science and Technology (DST), Mr Derek Hanekom, has congratulated his department for its performance in the 2012/13 management performance assessment. This comes after the release of the 2012/13 report by the Minister in the Presidency, Mr Collins Chabane, today, 11 September 2013.

The DST came out at the top of the list of all national government departments in the report. In welcoming the results, Minister Hanekom stated: "The department has put in place measures and systems to support its work, such as an adequate planning process, continuous monitoring and evaluation of its work and functional management structures."

Minister Hanekom further said: "This performance of the department will contribute towards the goal of the National Development Plan to professionalise the Public Service and improved service delivery."

The Director-General, Dr Phil Mjwara, said: "I would like to congratulate all the hard working officials in the department that have diligently ensured that there is adherence to Treasury regulations and directives with regard to supply chain management, procurement and expenditure management. A culture of enterprise risk management has been instilled, good work has been done by our own Internal Audit unit, and good human resource management standards have been set."
