Statement by Minister of Communications, S Nyanda, on the appointment of Sentech Board members and acting chief executive officer

The Minister of Communications, General (Ret) Siphiwe Nyanda is pleased to announce the appointment of the following members to the board of directors of state signal distributor Sentech as non-executive directors:

Mr Quaraysh Patel: Chairperson
Mr Mesuli Dhlamini
Ms Zanele Hlatshwayo
Mr Thabo Leeuw

Their appointments were confirmed by the cabinet meeting that sat on 24 March 2010 for a period of three years with effect from 1 April 2010. `

The minister wishes them well in their new responsibilities.

“I’m confident that your tenure on the board of Sentech will contribute towards the strengthening and growth of the organisation and take it to greater heights.

Your respective backgrounds and expertise will put you in good stead to build an entity that inspires hope and confidence amongst its peers and more importantly the staff at Sentech”, says Minister Nyanda.

The minister has also appointed Ms Beverly Ngwenya as acting Chief Executive Officer of Sentech with effect from 1 April 2010.

Ms Ngwenya is the current Chief Operations Officer at Sentech and has held the position for the past three years.

This follows the departure of Ms Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane who has been at the helm of the organisation since 2003.

Minister Nyanda thanks Ms Mokone-Matabane, the outgoing chairperson Mr Collin Hickling and the board members for their contribution.
