The impact of the strike action initiated by the Public Service Association on service delivery levels in the Department of Home Affairs has been very minimal with only 5.9 percent of the total staff complement as at Friday, 30 July supporting the strike in all provinces and ports of entry throughout the country.
Even though the strike action continues, service delivery levels in terms of issuance of identity documents (IDs), passports, permits and various forms certificates continue unabated and without major disruptions.
The Department of Home Affairs will continue to monitor and receive reports from all provincial offices and ports of entry through the Department’s Operational Centre based in Pretoria, a mechanism established to monitor traveller and tourist movement during the World Cup.
Secondly, the department will continue to monitor trends in terms of human resource deployment and to put mechanism in place to avoid major disruptions to service delivery levels for the duration of the strike action.
