The announcement made by the Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Firoz Cachalia, regarding government's support for the automotive industry appears to have created an impression that the Gauteng Provincial Government would be providing direct financial support to one of the automotive manufacturers.
MEC Cachalia on Tuesday announced that the Gauteng Provincial Government has committed R105 million to support growth of the automotive industry in Gauteng. The money will be spent on the building of a mini supplier park in Silverton as well as skills development.
No direct financial support will be provided by the Gauteng Provincial Government to any of the automotive manufacturers. The Silverton Supplier Park will be built along the same model as the Rosslyn Supplier Park which was opened in 2002.
The Gauteng Provincial Government, working together with the national and local spheres of government, is committed to support the growth of the automotive industry which has over the years contributed significantly to job creation and economic growth.
