Three thousand five hundred and thirty six (3 536) vehicles were stopped at safely home alcohol blitz roadblocks across the Western Cape this weekend.
Thirteen (13) drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after 1 503 drivers were screened for being under suspicion of the offence.
The highest breath alcohol reading was recorded in the Brackenfell service area at 1,85mg/1000ml.
227 speeding offences were recorded and a total of 382 fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness.
The highest speed was recorded on the N1 near Klapmuts with the driver recorded at 160km/h in a 120km/h zone.
A man was arrested for the possession of dagga by the police in Vredenburg during the alcohol blitz road block on Friday evening.
No fatal incidents were reported. Our safely home efforts continue to have a healthy effect on the rate of road fatalities in the Western Cape.
However, drunk driving and speeding remain the biggest threats to road safety in our province and the country as a whole. We will continue to strictly implement the law and if you drink and/or speed you will soon find yourself behind bars.
