The Office of the Chief of the South African National Defence Force (CSANDF) would like to inform both the public and members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) that they should take note of the utterances and attempts by leaders of South African National Defence Union (SANDU) who are trying to incite the members of the SANDF against the good discipline and order in the SANDF.
These actions follow the outcome of the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in which the Department of Defence was vindicated on the matter regarding taking disciplinary measures against some members of the SANDF who marched illegally to the Union Buildings on 26 August 2009.
On 20 August 2012 a full bench of the SCA unanimously set aside the interdict granted by the North Gauteng High Court in favour of SANDU.
This interdict had in effect prevented the Chief of SANDF from executing his constitutional duty of maintaining a disciplined force. According to the Constitution, the SANDF is expected to be structured and managed as disciplined military force. In this regard the Military Command of the SANDF will always ensure that the SANDF maintains the high standards of a professional and disciplined force. Therefore any breach of military professionalism and discipline will not be tolerated in SANDF.
The C SANDF and the Military Command are aware that the SANDU is also losing membership and support from members of the SANDF. In their fight for survival, the SANDU in desperation has engaged in a number of activities including organising illegal meetings in military bases and politicians to address members of the SANDF. The C SANDF and the Military Command wish to remind all South Africans that the SANDF may not be used to promote the interests of any political party or organisation.
