The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) seeks answers on infrastructure projects

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) will embark on a week-long oversight visit to assess Infrastructure Projects in the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Gauteng on 15 to 18 October 2012.

The decision to undertake the visits to the projects was taken following the hearing the Committee held with a number of stakeholders after the release of the Performance Audits Reports on Infrastructure Delivery at Provincial Departments of Health and Education by the Auditor-General.

The Committee, as a custodian of the public purse, decided to follow up on these issues by undertaking an oversight visit to the most affected provinces. The aim of the visit, among other things, is to interrogate challenges raised during the previous visit and find out what leads to delays in infrastructure projects.

The final leg of the visit will be to meet with the Head Office of Public Works to find answers to existing challenges.
