National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the North West has called upon law enforcement agencies to focus more on integrating their services and to intensify their public education programmes on whistle blowing in an effort to reduce crime within the Bojanala District.
The call was made by NPA Chief Prosecutor in the district, Ms Mmanotshe Seletishe during her presentation at the Bojanala Platinum District Crime Prevention summit that commenced on Monday in Rustenburg.
Advocate Seletishe said that this will start restoring confidence in the criminal justice system. She further called on Municipalities to enforce bylaws and put an end to the continued mushrooming of liquor outlets without proper licensing. Police are also concerned as high number of crimes in the district are caused by misuse of liquor.
Meanwhile the Provincial Department of Social Development, Women, Children and People with disability says that despite efforts taken by Social Workers in the district to educate communities about substance abuse especially in the far east of the district.
The abuse of Nyaope and Dagga has risen by 65% in areas like Madibeng and Moretele. However, both the Department of Social Development, Women, Children and people with Disability and the NPA agreed that integration, advocacy, further enforcement of strict regulations and prevention programmes are critical elements that can assist in building better communities.
Agricultural Unions, The South African Banking Risk Information Centre, Provincial Department of Economic Development and Tourism and the Provincial Community Policing Board are among some of the stakeholders to present their papers before the summit hosted by the North West Department of Human Settlements. Public Safety & Liaison which ends today breaks into commissions.
