The Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation today sent SASCOC away for failing to brief the Committee on the preparations for and performance at the Commonwealth Games, which were held in Glasgow in Scotland this year.
All members of the Committee were disappointed with the poor quality of the briefing presented at today’s meeting. Furthermore, the presentation was only sent to the Committee this morning, which did not give members enough time to interrogate it before the meeting.
The presentation also lacked crucial information on issues driving the national agenda, such as the transformation and development of sport. The Committee also noted the poor impression it gave of SASCOC’s relationships with some federations such as the South African Football Association (SAFA), as SASCOC was unable to provide substantial answers on SAFA affairs as requested by the Committee.
The Committee instructed SASCOC to prepare a proper presentation for when it appears before the Committee again.
