The Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation is happy with the South African Football Association’s (SAFA’s) briefing on the Siyaya Broadcast Deal. SAFA has signed a deal worth R1 billion with Siyaya over a six-year period.
The Committee met with South African Football Association (SAFA) earlier today. It is satisfied with the facts presented by SAFA to the Committee. The Committee is also happy with the fact that SAFA will get R175 million per year from this deal. SAFA is currently getting R27 million per annum from its deal with SABC. The deal between SAFA and Siyaya will help bring equity around broadcasting deals in sport.
It is the view of the Committee that this deal is in the best interest of development of football in the country as it will bring more funding towards football programmes. According to SAFA, the deal will lead to more live football matches of Banyana Banyana and Under-20 squad on television. In addition, Bafana Bafana will get more coverage.
