The Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation joins South Africans in expressing joy at the great sporting achievements experienced by the country this past weekend.
The Committee congratulates cricketer Mr Hashim Amla for being the first Proteas batsman to score a triple hundred in a test match and golfer Mr Ernie Els for winning the British Open at Royal and St. Anne in London this weekend.
Mr Amla scored an unbeaten 311 runs in a test match against England on Sunday. The Proteas drubbed the English side by 12 runs and an innings. The win gives the Proteas a one-nil lead in the three-match test series.
“We would like to congratulate the entire Proteas team for this great achievement,” said Committee whip, Mr Mgolodi Dikgacwi.
He added: “We would also like to congratulate the Sharks for the win against the Australian Reds team and for qualifying for the semi-finals this coming weekend.”
The Committee further wishes Banyana Banyana well for their game in an opening Group F fixture against Sweden in Coventry today.
“We would also like to wish the whole South African Olympics team well and we hope they will return home with some medals,” said Dikgacwi.
