Sport, Arts and Culture on National Professional Boxing Promoters’ Association (NPBPA) concerns over new Boxing South Africa Board

Sport, Arts and Culture Ministry on National Professional Boxing Promoters’ Association (NPBPA) concerns over new Boxing South Africa Board

The Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture has noted the media statement by the National Professional Boxing Promoters’ Association (NPBPA) noting its “grave concern” about the appointment of the new Boxing South Africa (BSA) Board.

On 28 November 2023, the Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Mr Zizi Kodwa announced the new BSA Board, which begins its three-year term on 12 December 2023.

This new Board was announced by the Minister following a rigorous and transparent selection process undertaken by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. The Department followed a due process of appointing a Board, as outlined in the South African Boxing Act of 2001. The allegations made by NPBPA against the Department are objectionable.

As the new BSA Board begins its term, Minister Kodwa says, “Our intention is to ensure Boxing South Africa is empowered and led by ethical leaders with strong governance, commercial and administrative expertise. The incoming Board is expected to lift boxing in South Africa and return it to its former glory.”

The NPBPA have the right to express their objections. The Ministry reserves further comment on the matter.
