Mr Fikile Mbalula was sworn in as the new Minister of Sport and Recreation (SRSA) on 1 November 2010, taking over the reins from Reverend Dr Makhenkesi Stofile, who has ably led SRSA since 2004.
The department looks forward to working with Mr Mbalula as the new Minister in implementing government's vision of an active and winning nation, and unlocking sport opportunities for all South Africans.
The department wishes Reverend Stofile well in his future endeavours, and thanks him for his leadership during his tenure as Minister.
Mr Mbalula was previously Deputy Minister of Police, and has held various top positions in the ANC Youth League since 1994, including those of Secretary-General and President.
