Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) sends 74 coaches to Vitality Wellness Convention

Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) has assisted 74 coaches from across the country to attend the 7th Vitality Wellness Convention held in Johannesburg.

The coaches are part of an on-going coach support program run by SRSA's Directorate of Scientific Support. The program focuses on sport science and medicine in coaching.

The annual Vitality Wellness Convention is South Africa's primary sport science event, and features presentations by leading industry professionals. Presentations cover areas such as nutrition, fitness training and biokinetics.

"We hope that by helping the coaches to attend, they will pick up knowledge and learn about the various aspects of sport science represented here," says SRSA's  Itumeleng Mudau.

Rob Holden, national training manager for the sport of sailing is one of the coaches attending the convention. Sailing has been in the SRSA coaches program for about two years, and has benefited greatly from it. "Being here provides us with a great opportunity to network with and learn from other sports," he says. Our focus is to broaden participation in sailing especially among kids, and giving being part of this initiative helps us learn how to do this, as well as pick up skills long the way."

The coaches program continues with a nutrition workshop to be held during the latter part of the year.
