Sport and Recreation South Africa invites public input into the future of boxing in South Africa

The examination of boxing in the country by veteran boxing television and radio presenter Dumile Mateza and award winning boxing writer Mesuli Zifo, is still underway. What has come up from the hearings conducted in various areas of the country is that while people making input are mainly representing organised structures, there is still a need for independent input by members of the public.

In response, the department is inviting members of the public who still wish to make input into the future of boxing, to do so in writing on or before 31 August 2009. Their input can be submitted:

by fax to:
Boxing Matters
Fax: 0866 111 356 or 0866 449 694

by e-mail with boxing matters as a subject to:
lerato@srsa.gov.za or queen@srsa.gov.za

by post to:
Lerato Lehloenya
Boxing Matters
Private Bag X896
Pretoria

The input will form part of the report that will inform discussions later this year at a boxing indaba, to be called by the Minister of Sport and Recreation, Reverend Makhenkesi Stofile.

The examination into the affairs of South African boxing was informed by the poor state of the sport, both administratively and operationally.
