Speedster arrested on N4 in Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Mr Vusi Shongwe has welcomed the arrest and detention of a driver of a BMW sedan for driving at 228 km per hour on Schoemandal Road on N4 Toll Route.

The driver is being detained at Ngodwana Police Station and he is being charged with reckless and negligent driving.

Shongwe says the arrest will send strong messages to would be speedsters that reckless driving will not be tolerated in the province this holiday season.
He says the traffic officers will work around the clock to ensure that roads become safer and that holiday makers arrive safely at their various destinations.

He added that as part of clamping down of traffic offenders and increased traffic volumes in various roads, traffic officers’ visibility will be increased from this weekend.

Shongwe says those who will be found driving recklessly, drinking and driving will not be spurred any mercy this Festive Season.

“We are once more appealing to road users to tolerate one another, refrain from drinking and driving and breaking the law needlessly among others. Our traffic officers and the police will be ready to pounce on any law breakers. There will zero tolerance to bad driving in this province,” the MEC said.

He has also appealed to road users to report any bad driving to authorities so that accidents can be drastically reduced this holiday season.
