Speeding, reckless and negligent motorists arrested for driving over 200km per hour

Gauteng Traffic Police of the Department of Community Safety arrested two motoriststhis morning on charges of speeding, reckless and negligent driving along the N4 Witbank.One motorist was driving an Opel at 219 km per hour, while the other drove Toyota on 212km per hour.Both suspects were detained at the Bronkhorspruit police station and are due to appear today at the Kungwini magistrate court.

In a separate incident, another motorist was arrested on Tuesday for driving his BMW at 206km per hour along the N3 Heidelberg. He was detained at the Heidelberg police station and pleaded guilty at the Heidelberg magistrate court the same day.The matter was since postponed to a later date.

These arrests are in line with the Gauteng Road Strategy which has already achieved 30% reduction of road accidents and fatalities over the last five years. Motorists are urged to always obey rules of the road as they pose a serious danger to other motorists.
