Special licenses for Easter holidays

In an effort to facilitate the safety and legal travel during the Easter holidays in April, the Department of Roads and Transport is inviting qualifying public transport operators to apply for special operating licenses. Operators wishing to get these permits can apply as from 7 to 25 March 2011.

Completed application forms can be handed in with the following documents and an application fee of R200.00 per vehicle:

  • Certified copy of ID/CC/PTY (Ltd)
  • Original or certified copy of the permit/operating license or written permission
  • Original or certified copy of a Vehicle Certificate of Fitness (COF)
  •  Original or certified copy of a Vehicle Certificate of Registration (COR)
  • Tax clearance certificate from the South African Revenue Services
  • Recommendation letter and ARTA (Route) form from the relevant registered Taxi Association
  • Original or certified copy of Passenger Liability Insurance from an accredited financial institution indicting the following:
    • Inception date
    • Expiry date
    • Cover amounts
    • Original vehicle test report from an authorised government testing station
    • Any other documents that may be required for processing of applications.

Applicants should note that only those in possession of operating licenses are legible to apply.

Completed forms can be handed in at the following offices:

  • Johannesburg - 91 Commissioner Street, Second Floor, Batho Pele Building
  • Pretoria - 345 corner DF Malan Drive and Proes Streets.
