The Speaker of the North West Legislature mourns the life of Mama Winnie Madikizela Mandela

The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Sussana Dantjie takes this time to honour the life and legacy of Mama Winfred Nomzamo Madikizela Mandela, who passed on Monday, 2 April 2018.

“Mama Winnie was not only a wife and mother to a renowned family, but also a rare leader of note who represented the many wives and mothers of those that took part in the liberation struggle, said Hon. Dantjie

The Speaker noted that she would be remembered for her selfless contribution to opportunities  that women and the people of the world endure today with her militant and fearless leadership. “She has laid a pillar of hope and fiery strength that many women such as us, would doubt that we possess. In her, we as the women of the nation, are able to occupy positions of power and leadership that were only deemed suitable for our male counterparts and able to make meaningful inputs in making this country better,” said Hon. Dantjie

The Legislature will forever remember her love, dedication and hope in seeing a better South Africa for all as enshrined in the Freedom Charter of 1956. Mama Winnie may not live to see each day as we continue to build this nation, but her undying spirit will forever remain a part of us, giving women and many people of the nation courage and militant strength to fight our everyday struggle of achieving economic freedom and equality.

We thank our Mother of the Nation for her sacrifice and love and also convey our deepest condolences to her loving family, that they should find peace and solace in these trying times.

May her revolutionary soul rest in eternal peace.
