The Office of the Speaker in the North West Provincial Legislature has been shocked and saddened by the untimely death of PR Councillor Paulina Masutlha of Ward 26 in the Madibeng Local Municipality, Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, yesterday.
The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Supra Mahumapelo said he is taking seriously the allegation that her death came after being shot by a rubber bullet during the ongoing unrest in the Marikana area on Saturday morning, where she served as a Councillor. “The Office of the Speaker, through the relevant Legislature Portfolio Committee, will investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
“We however call on the affected next of kin, friends and the community at large to remain calm, await autopsy results and allow the law to take its course”, said Hon. Mahumapelo.
All Speakers of North West Municipalities that are currently in a meeting at Royal Marang Hotel in Rustenburgfor the their Provincial Speakers’ Forum will be paying a visit to the family to convey condolences today, 20th September 2012 at 16h00.
