South African Revenue Service (SARS) customs seizes marijuana destined for the United Kingdom in Durban

South African Revenue Service (SARS) customs officials stationed at the Durban mail centre made a successful seizure of compressed marijuana on Monday. The narcotics weighing 23,8kg, with a street value of R57 000 was destined for the United Kingdom. This brings the total estimated value of seizures of marijuana held through customs operations at the mail centre to R137 000 since Friday.

On Friday morning, two consignments of marijuana were seized during routine checks. The first of Friday’s seizures was 14 bricks of compressed marijuana weighing 15,3kg discovered at 10h45, while the second consignment containing 20 bricks of the same narcotic weighing 21,4kg was discovered an hour later. The two seizures had an estimated street value of R80 000.

All three seizures have been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.
