An Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) investigation has resulted in a conviction of a South African Police Service (SAPS) Warrant Officer, Annanias Nkosi on a charge of murder and five other charges. The Durban High Court found Nkosi guilty on 24 June 2010 on charges of murder, assault, kidnapping and three (3) counts of intimidation.
This comes after the accused shot and killed his fiancé, Phumzile Mkhwanazi on 12 October 2004 in Osizweni, Newcastle whilst under the influence of alcohol. The couple was having relationship problems. The accused, which was based at Wakkerstroom, Mpumalanga, was convicted for assaulting Winile Constance Nkosi for allowing his wife and another man into her house.
He was also found guilty of intimidation after he went to Antony Filind’s house at Wakkerstroom, Mpumalanga where he made death threats because he suspected him of having an affair with his fiancé. The sentence will be handed out on 13 September 2010 at Ramsgate High Court in Port Shepstone. The accused is currently at the Westville Correctional Services and will remain there until he pays bail of R50 000.
