The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) arrested a 45 year old Captain T E Hantsi on allegations of rape this morning. Captain Hantsi is alleged to have raped a 25 year old female en route Odendaalsrus from Welkom in a state vehicle on 10 May 2010 just after midnight.
It is alleged that while on the way to Odendaalsrus the captain deviated from the intende route before stopping the car next to a grassy area. He then raped the complainant.
ICD received the complaint from SAPS Welkom on 10 May 2010 and immediately assigned the matter to an investigator. The ICD investigator interviewed the victim that same day.
Captain Hantsi was arrested and detained at Virginia Police Station on 12 May 2010. He appeared at the Welkom Magistrates Court today, 14 May 2010. The accused was granted bail of R1000. The case was postponed to 23 June 2010.
