South African National Defence Force (SANDF) support to Department of Home Affairs

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) requested the Department of Defence in particular the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to assist in proper staffing of critical vacancies in the Immigration Operation structure. In addition, DHA further requested the SANDF to assist in completing the immigration documentation of Zimbabwean nationals and other foreign individuals.

By providing support to DHA, the SANDF will be fulfilling one of its mission which is “to provide support to other government departments when required” thereby ensuring that SANDF contribute in creating a better South Africa.

The Department of Home Affairs has embarked on an extensive turnaround programme, aimed at developing a culture of responsiveness and improved service delivery. The DHA requires the service of members who are committed, loyal, patriotic, discipline, passionate and talented to form part of a new leadership team, equipped with the right skills to deliver a world class service.

A total number of 350 SANDF members will be transferred through inter-departmental transfer to DHA and further 500 SANDF Reserve Force members will assist the DHA in order to complete the immigration documentation of Zimbabwean nationals and other foreign individuals.

The inter-departmental transfer will commence with effect from 1 September 2011 and 500 Reserve Force members started to assist as from 15 August 2011 to 15 November 2011.
