South African murder suspect to be extradited to the UK

South African national, George Champion Sithole, who is wanted in the United Kingdom (UK) for allegedly murdering a six year old child, will be handed over to British Police officers and flown out of the country tomorrow night at 21h35 under an extradition order.

He is wanted in the UK for the murder of Dumoluhle Sibanda, who lived with her family in Crawley, West Sussex.

On 26 October 2004 an arsonist attacked the family home by pouring petrol into the house and igniting it. The adult occupants of the house managed to escape unharmed but six year old Dumo died in the fire. Sithole then fled to South Africa three days later.

Sithole, 40 years of age, had been on the run for six years when South African Police Service members managed to track him down and arrest him in Jeppe, Johannesburg on 2 March 2010.

On 4 February 2011 Sithole was found to be extraditable. The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development has ordered his surrender in terms of the extradition law to the British authorities.

The Fugitive Extradition Unit of Interpol within the South African Police Service will hand the suspect over to police officers sent by the British authorities and he will be extradited from the OR Tambo International Airport.
