South African Democratic Teacher's Union's (SADTU) comments are regrettable

South African Democratic Teacher’s Union’s comments about today’s national senior certificate function at Leeuwenhof are regrettable. Today’s ceremony recognised and celebrated excellence in a number of areas and was a great success.

SADTU is guilty of double standards in that it has attacked the Democratic Alliance administration when the previous ANC administration also held two separate functions because of a similar delay in release of data from the national Department of Basic Education. The second such function was not even held at Leeuwenhof and was hosted in late February. Yet SADTU was completely quiet at the time.

At today’s function, MEC for Education, Donald Grant committed the administration to ensure that there is one celebration event when the class of 2010’s national senior certificate results are released. MEC Grant is determined to celebrate the success of learners free from political sniping and point scoring and is looking forward to working with SADTU and other teacher unions in ensuring that we improve the quality of education outcomes in 2010.
