The South African business delegation has arrived in Brazil for the first Outward Selling Mission (OSM) organised by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in the country. The OSM will take place in Sao Paulo from 15–19 July 2013.
The objective of the mission is to increase exports of South African agro-processing products and to promote South Africa as a trade and investment destination in high growth markets.
Sectors targeted for the OSM are agro-processing in particular fruit juice, wine and rooibos.
The business delegation will participate in a sequence of business to business meetings, trade seminars and numerous site visits to local food and beverage associations and supermarket chain stores mainly in the agro-processing sector.
South Africa’s Trade Representative in Brazil, Mr Willem Van Der Spy says the OSM will be used as a marketing tool for promoting South African agro-processing products. It will also serve as a follow-up to the site visits that took place during the last Trade and Investment Initiative held in Brazil.
Van Der Spy also said recent data indicate that South African global exports in these products have increased over this period.
The Director of Citrusdal Wine, Ms Nothemba Tobi from Cape Town, who is also looking for an importer or distributor and currently exporting her wines to Netherlands and Belgium, says there are a lot of opportunities in these foreign markets especially in Brazil for wine exporters which need to be explored.
“There is great potential for export in these parts of the world that can benefit wine exporters from South Africa and BRICS as a whole. We just need to find the niche market that we can excel in and make use of the opportunities that the Brazil World Cup will produce for us wine exporters,” said Tobi.
