South Africa retains position as Vice-Chair of International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council

South Africa has retained its position as Vice-Chair of the Council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

This was announced earlier today, Thursday, 3 December 2009 at the 26th session of the IMO Assembly taking place in London from 23 November to 4 December 2009.

South Africa was elected onto the Council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in London last Friday (27 November 2009). Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele led the bid for the IMO Council.

South Africa was one of 40 countries elected onto the Council, which is the executive body of the IMO.
