South Africa devoted to uprooting xenophobia

South Africa remains committed to resolving and stamping out the recurring problem of xenophobia in all its forms wherever it manifests itself within the Republic.

This was the message from Minister for Public Service and Administration, Mr Richard Baloyi during his opening remarks of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) meeting of select Focal Points with African Peer Review (APR) Panel members.

The two-day summit in Sandton, Johannesburg is part of regular meetings whereby Focal Point members are reviewing its operations towards the finalisation of the Revised Set of Procedures as per the directive of the APRM.

Minister Baloyi who, as the Minister for Public Service and Administration, is South Africa's Focal Point of the APRM, said xenophobia was one of the issues that the Panel identified as needing attention.

"Xenophobia is a very serious problem that we need to deal with decisively as we are currently collating information that will lead to extensive consultations and ultimately the compilation of South Africa's third report to be tabled in July 2013," he said.

Apart from the APR Panel members, other Focal Points attending the meeting that ends tomorrow are from Angola, Uganda, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Ethiopia.
