South Africa and Peru should complement each other to build economies

South Africa and Peru have a wide range of opportunities which they can utilise to complement each other instead of competing to build their economies. This was said by the President of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (LCC) Mr Jorge Von Wedemeyer at the Trade and Investment seminar hosted by the LCC in the Peruvian capital. The seminar was hosted as part of the Outward Trade and Investment Mission that took place in that country.

"South Africa and Peru share many similarities as well as commonalities in terms of the people, cultures and the fact that they are both situated in the southern hemisphere. It is for this reason that the two countries should identify areas that they can explore together and collaborate in order to build our economies," said Mr Wedemeyer

The Ambassador of South Africa to Peru Ms Elsa Dry highlighted that South African products had been available in Peru in the past and they were known for their good quality.

"Our country is celebrating 20 years of freedom this year and we are therefore making our presence known around the world. We are bringing back the good quality products to the Peruvian market and we believe the Peruvians will love them," said Ambassador Dry.

She encouraged the South African business delegates to take in as much information as possible so that they can be equipped to start doing business with the Peruvians. She also told the delegates that in as much as government can arrange these platforms, it is really up to them to make the most of it and ensure that they benefit from this mission.

The business delegation were also informed of the macro-economic situation in Peru, the Peruvian economic environment and investment background, how to do business with Peru and about the operational aspects related to the export of products to the country.

The delegation will travel to Chile, where they will participate in the second leg of the mission taking place in Santiago from 5 - 6 June 2014.
