Social Development postpones Child Protection Week

The Department of Social Development wishes to inform members of the media about the postponement of the Child Protection Week campaign, which was initially scheduled for 25 May until 31 May 2015.  This campaign will now be officially launched on 31 May and run until 7 June 2015.  The launch of Child Protection Week will take place in Kokstad under the theme, “Working Together to Protect Children”.

Child Protection Week is celebrated annually on the last week of May and aims to mobilise all sectors of society to care for and protect children. Moreover, the campaign intends to make adults and children aware of the statutory protection a child enjoys under the Constitution, legislations, policies and international instruments South Africa is signatory to.

The postponement follows cabinet’s pronouncement that the country will observe Africa Day on May 24, under the theme, “We are Africa – Opening the doors of learning and culture from Cape to Cairo”.  President Jacob Zuma will lead the Africa Day celebrations, which will take place at University of Pretoria, Mamelodi campus – Gauteng Province.

More correspondence on Child Protection Week campaign will be communicated to the media in due course.
