Media accreditation for the 7th Biennial Conference of the Global Alcohol Alliance at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, South Africa
South Africa will host the 7th Biennial Conference of the Global Alcohol Alliance (GAPC2023) scheduled to take place from 24th to 26th October 2023 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre 2 (CTICC). The conference will be held under the theme: "Investing in People before Profits: Building Momentum towards the Framework Convention on Alcohol Control,”
The biennial gathering aims to emphasise the need for proactive steps at both national and especially global levels. The conference will have several plenaries which focus on Gender-Based Violence and Alcohol; Alcohol Pricing Policies; Regulating digital marketing of alcohol; Disrupting the Impacts of Conflict of Interest; and New initiatives in promoting impactful policies and reducing industry influence. These plenaries will be led by some of the world’s leading researchers, activists and scientists. More than 400 delegates from across the globe will attend the alcohol policy conference.
Co-hosted by the Department of Social Development, Global Alcohol Policy Alliance (GAPA), the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) and the Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance (SAAPA), the conference enjoys the support of co-sponsors including the WHO, DG Murray Trust, the National Department of Health, and SA Tourism. Other funders include the National Research Foundation, the Western Cape Provincial Government and Open Philanthropies.
This conference comes after Cabinet approved for public comments the gazetting of the alcohol policy and the resuscitation of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on alcohol and substance abuse.
Only bona fide media practitioners may apply for media accreditation. All fields in the media accreditation form must be filled. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. The deadline for media accreditation is 23 October 2023 and it will not be extended, and late applications will not be accepted.
Collection of accreditation cards will be subject to the presentation of a valid ID/Passport and a press card or letter of assignment from the editor. Journalists using passports as identification should note that passports should be valid for at least 30 days beyond the expected date of arrival in South Africa. At least two pages must be unused when the passport is presented for endorsement.
