The Department of Social Development confirms the appointment of Advocate Gugulethu Thimane as the Acting Director-General in the department. Adv Thimane has been seconded from the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency where she is serving as Deputy DirectorGeneral responsible for Public Sector Monitoring and Capacity Development.
With over 25 years of experience in the Public Sector, Adv Thimane has served across all three spheres of government. She holds academic qualifications in Economics, Social Work, Law and Management reflecting a multidisciplinary foundation that aligns strongly with the Department’s mandate of delivering integrated and people-centered social services.
Adv Thimane served in various Government positions including Head of Department Corporate Services and Interim Municipal Manager at Lesedi Local Municipality, Legal Advisor to the Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Developmental Social Worker at Mandela Reconstruction and Development Programme at the Alberton Town Council, Board Member for Ports Regulator South Africa and Board Member at Public Service Sector and Training Authority. The Acting Director-General’ special interests range from Socio-Economic Development, Governance and Human Rights.
