SMME’s to benefit from roll-out of ICT Strategy

Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises stand to benefit from the roll-out of the Information Communications and Technologies (ICT) Rural Development Strategy that will bring internet connectivity to 200 schools, clinic and other health facilities across the North West Province.

In welcoming the resolution taken at the Provincial ICT Mini-Lekgotla that ended on Friday in Rustenburg, North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise said that District engagements should empower SMME’s, businesses and other private organisations for them to derive benefit from ICT interventions that would improve access to information, reduce the cost of doing business and boost local economies.

Eleven wards across the province have been prioritised for the roll-out of the first Phase of the ICT Rural Development Strategy aimed at establishing a Provincial Community Television Station, community radio stations, Postal e-service, E-skills and training and ICT hubs and telecentres.

A provincial steering committee constituted by representatives from provincial departments, state owned entities and municipalities was nominated to consolidate an action plan that is to streamline ICT interventions and pave the way for adoption of a Provincial ICT Strategy.
