Skills development for women in agriculture

Today Gauteng MEC of Agriculture and Rural Development Nandi Mayathula-Khoza together with the Chairperson of PricewaterhouseCoopers Mr Thabani Jali awarded certificates to 20 women in agriculture who completed the Faranani Rural Women Training Initiative, a business skills development course offered by Business Skill South Africa.

The Faranani Women Training Initiative is driven by PricewaterhouseCoopers in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to develop the skills of women in agriculture. The initiative focuses on ensuring that agricultural businesswomen develop business management skills to empower them to be better farmers and manage well run farms.

The 20 women who attended the training and received certificates today come from various business backgrounds. Their enterprises range from poultry production, vegetable production under tunnels (hydroponics), piggery production, catering, event management, property and engineering services. This shows the diverse areas of agriculture that Gauteng offers.

“It is expected that the skills acquired during this training to these women we acknowledge today will be implemented to improve the profitability of their respective enterprises, help in growing agriculture and create jobs within the province,” said the MEC.
