Sixteen suspects have been arrested on drug related charges in Upington in the Northern Cape. The arrests are a conclusion of Operation Drust, which was aimed at addressing illegal drugs dealing from Western Cape to Upington, Northern Cape. During the operation, our agents infiltrated drug dealers and obtained TIK, ecstasy, cannabis and cocaine. 76 cell phones and two laptops were also recovered.
On Wednesday members of the Hawks, Crime Intelligence and other units moved in on the suspects and their premises. The main supplier to the group operates from Cape Town. He was arrested while trying to sell drugs to one of our agents.
The total value of the items seised is estimated at over R200 000. The suspects will appear in the Magistrates Court in Upington today, facing drug related charges. They are also expected to apply for bail.
