Six lives lost in two separate accidents in Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has expressed shock at the loss of six lives in two separate accidents at Waterval Boven and Sabie on Friday, 24 August 2012.

Two children aged two and 12 years died when a vehicle they were travelling in lost control on the N4 toll route near Waterval Boven.

A head collision between a Nissan Livina and Audi A3 claimed four lives on R532 Road between Sabie and Graskop. All the four victims were travelling in a Livinia sedan which caught fire while the victims were still trapped inside. The driver of the A3 sedan sustained serious injuries and has been transported to Sabie Provincial Hospital. 

It is suspected that one of the vehicles was overtaking when the accident happened. The police have opened cases of culpable homicide to determine the cause of the two accidents.

Shongwe has called on drivers to exercise care and caution while driving to avoid any further accidents.
